1. What is a Wanfo Wall?

A Wanfo Wall consists of small niches for enshrining Buddha statues, deity statues, or memorial tablets. Named for its numerous niches ("Wan" means ten thousand), it may also be called a "Wanfo Wall Light," "Wanfo Memorial Tablet Wall," or "Cremation Niche Wall." Its defining feature is carvings of Buddhas, deities, and divine figures. With consecration by monks, worshippers' prayers and offerings are believed to be blessed, fulfilling wishes and eliminating hardships.

The Sutra on the Karmic Differences of Beings highlights ten benefits of worshipping at a Wanfo Wall:

1. Illuminating the World: Worshippers will be like lamps enlightening the world, achieving noble status.

2. Unimpaired Vision: Worshippers will have clear eyesight.

3. Divine Vision: Worshippers will attain the divine eye.

4. Discernment of Good and Evil: Worshippers will distinguish right from wrong.

5. Elimination of Darkness: Worshippers will dispel ignorance.

6. Enlightened Intelligence: Worshippers will have superior wisdom.

7. Avoidance of Darkness: Worshippers will not be reborn in dark realms.

8. Great Merit: Worshippers will be reborn as fortunate beings.

9. Rebirth in Heaven: Worshippers will ascend to heavenly realms.

10. Quick Attainment of Nirvana: Worshippers will achieve enlightenment swiftly.
